All players on Halo 3 are muted and I can't unmute them.?

I was playing earlier and had no problems but but now it says that everyone I play is muted and I need to unmute them, but I go to their gamertag and they are not muted. But they have the mute symbol. How can I fix this. I want to hear people, I can't even hear my own team.
