did halo wars invent rts?

I'm what you might call a "casual" gamer and recently i heard a rumour that one of my favorite games (halo wars) invented a genre of games called "RTS". It seems likely because of how great the game is and how popular it was but i'm really wondering if its true.

Age of Mythology and Age of Empires and games like Company of Heroes started the RTS genre

no, in fact many hard core PC gamers dislike halo wars as overly simplistic in order to attract casual gamers like you.
there have been hundreds of RTS games going back 15 years.

Not at all. Real Time Strategy has been around for a LONG time.
