Do people still play games like Gears of War and Halo 3?

I am getting a Xbox 360 soon, and I was wanting to get some of the 360 classics, like Halo 3, Gears of War, Call of Duty 4, and other great games like that. However, from my point of view people are moving on to games like Gears of war 2, and CoD: World at War. So I am asking are people still playing XBL on those older games or are they ditching them for ones that just came out?
