Do the Halo 3 skulls have a permanent effect?

I know in halo 2 the effects of the skulls end when you restart the Xbox. Can and how do you disable the Halo 3 skulls?

No, you can turn them on and off if you would like.

No, effects are not permanent. You can toggle them on or off as you please. In the campaign lobby screen you can press X to bring up a screen to see each skull you have collected and it will give you option enable or disable them.

Nope. The halo skulls actually have a meaning in Halo 3. They r for achievments and for score modifyers. When u find a skull, drop it quit (or continue) the level, then press X before u start a new game to see ur skull collection. Make sure u turn on campaign scoring to get more achivements and activating GOLD skulls gives u multiplyers for ur score (x2, x3, x4)
