they do not say the f word in halo 3 they only say words like d*mn hell a**. so yeah

Ha, um, if you're in an inter-galactic war how many times would YOU say the f-word?
They say it about 2-3 times in the game. They say it surprisingly less than you would think if you were in a situation like that.
On XBOX Live...it'll depend on the crowd of people you play with.
