Play Halo 1 for the single player, it is awesome. I would not bother with Halo 2 and definitely play xbox live on Halo 3.

For now Halo 3 has everyone on it but i preffered the 2 so far i mean i just got it and its beautifull and all but the 2 is still my faverot online HEY GUYS REUNION ON HALO 2 later at my hous to celabrabet som good years lol then halo 3 after party yeah baby!

those 3 are the only reasons i bought my 360, halo 3 is really good online and signle player and probally my favorite but i still like to play both of them just for fun sometimes

Look, Halo3 is probally the best game on the market at the momment, i cannot compare it to classic halo 1, thats fun for me everytime i come back to play it, halo 2 i only bought for the XBox live play with my friends, and now Halo 3 has me glued to my T.v for both story and XBox live. Halo3 Owns Halo2 but Halo1 i am always able to come back to.
