halo 1 on netbook problem?

I can't change direction while moving. I can change direction while moving when I am holding down alt while moving, but that only works sometimes. my computer is an acer aspire one AOD150. it runs halo kind of good actually but I can't steer my character with the mouse pad while walking which means I can only aim and shoot while standing still taking too much fire.
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

try getting a better computer
