Halo 3 ending confusing question. need help!?

in the end of halo 3 when master chief wakes up and they are floating. wasnt the arbiter on that same ship? how did the arbiter get down to saftey and the rest of the population? shouldnt he be lost too?!

Well you may have to watch the cutscene over but the arbiter went to one side of the ship and master cheif was on the other side. The ship split apart, thus sending master cheif out into space and the arbiter to Earth. And at the end it shows Master Cheif and cortana floating towards an unknown planet.

the master chief and cortana got on the bad part of the ship and the arbiter was already in the pilots seat where he could do a space jump or something like that and portal cut them off
