Halo 3 exp question?

I just got to a gunnery sergeant(grade 2) and i played for about 15 minutes. After that, I turned off my 360 an went back on and saw that I was still a gunnery sergeants grade 1. How wold this happen? May you also tell me the best way to get exp up???

The only way you can lose exp is by quitting or getting disconnected from matches. If you didn't get disconnected or quit a match it might be be because of a glitch.

The best way to get exp up is to party up with people with lower levels then you. In ranked team games, the game tries to make it so that the levels are equal or close to it. So, if you party up with people with low levels who are good, you have a better chance of getting matched up with people who are not good, so you win more. And then your experience goes up.

You said you turned off you Xbox 360 right. Well, if you were in a game then you would've lost exp. Turning off the console during the game gives you the same penalties as if you had quit. If you weren't in a game, I guess it was a glitch. As for the best way to get exp. If you're really good at Halo play in rumble pit and Lone Wolves. These are the games where its free for all. As far as exp goes, I'm pretty sure that as long as you aren't last or something you get exp for the match. I got exp for being first, second, and third. I never got fourth or anything below that so I wouldn't know about that.
