Halo 3 For Xbox 360 Campain Question?

Ok i know you can make your online and offline custom sparten or elite at the opening menu you hit back buttom or start not sure which one but you can pick ur armor type and color and emblem and once i am all done is this a way to use the custom guy in campain mode with my friends offline?

your created character is not for the campaign it is only for custom games forge or matchmaking dorry
