Halo wars - A console RTS that works? Or not?

I don't give a damn about halo, but I do like a good RTS game.

My problem however is I've heard halo wars is just that, based primarily around the wars.

I like the micromanagement and strategy element of collecting resources and distributing them accordingly, either to increase my army, or production of even more resources.

Will I be dissapointed if I got this game? Console RTS games have never really been up to scratch...

Games I like: Lord of the rings: battle for middle earth and warhammer 40k: dawn of war

It's ok. I didn't like it a huge amount, but it didn't suck. It's just your average RTS game. Nothing super special.

considering most of the console RTS's i've played were complete trash...

halo wars is one of the best and goes into the "its ok" game category.

the controls are easy to learn and use in the game. though you lose alot of typical RTS controls like squad assignments, you should feel the game is relatively comfortable.

Graphics...are ok i guess. i never judge and RTS by graphics. but the cinematic are nice. even though the people walk kinda funny.imo

story. well all halo games have a good story. this one is just one more chapter.

as for how long it will last you? maybe a month. thats how long i played it. the unit cap is annoying. but i guess you dont ever need anymore than you got. mutiplayer is questionable though.

the balance of unit abilities is allright i guess. UNSC is definitely stronger but the covenant can have a larger force. the flood is pretty much just a distraction. while the UNSC has leader abilities that tie into the spirit of fire (MAC gun, Cryo ect) and the covenant heroes have their little abilities the UNSC hero abilities are definately more useful than covie.

i think as a first try its a good game. it needs some tweaks and should definitely be put out onto PC. halo started out as an RTS and you can see how that affects this game.
