Halo Wars Advice anyone?

I got halo wars just yesterday, and played it for the first time today. I'm stuck on mission 4. I have a plan to stay with cargo #2 and guard it, build a base and get as many marines as possible, and from there destroy any enemies that try to attack until the time limit is gone. Is this a good plan, or is there something better I can do?
