Halo Wars Tips for Campaign?

Any tips for Halo Wars campaign becuase they always kill my army fast. I just started playing it and was wondering for tips. Yes I know you can call me a noob but i'm new to these Strategy games.

What approach are you using? Do you try to tech to much and forget to build up your army? Do you forget to incorporate anti-air, anti-ground, and air units into your army?
