high def tv to sensitive for halo 3?

my cousin has a 32 in" vizio and he says its way to sensitive to play halo and his other 37 inch high def lags?

could anyone help me out with reasons why this might be?

the only thing i can think of is that he might not have the hdtv switch on on his av cables.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
