How can I avoid Needlers in Halo 2 multiplayer?

My friend and I do 1-on-1 multiplayer in Halo 2. I always go for Plasma Pistol and Battle Rifle (and occasionally the Shotty Snipes combo), and my friend goes for dual Needlers. If I charge my PP, blast him, and then shoot him with the BR, he's dead. However, I absolutely need a *charged* PP, otherwise his Needles will kill me first. Do you guys have any strategies as to how I can...

1) Avoid needles? He shoots all out and so if I strafe, enough still manage to hit me to blow me up. I run away a lot, but that only makes me look like a noob and wastes time.

2) Take out my friend? Do you have any good tips, tricks, or glitches? Again, I use the PP and BR and it's a nasty combo, but I hate the fact that the PP needs to be charged. If I'm ever caught off guard without a charge or my PP misses, I gotta wait 5 seconds for the PP to cool and another 5 to charge up a blast. In terms of a combo, I want something ready at all times.

Two questions. Please answer both. Also, if you're a prude and are laughing just because I typed PP, don't bother answering.

ok dude first you need to learn some super jumps...go on youtube and type in

Halo 2 super jump (insert level name)

for lockout i have a supreme stradgey........ when your friend is chasing you with needlers run and jump of the ledges and attemt to land on the ones below.......and if u can get him to cahse u up the ramp with the sniper rifle and the three boxes up there u got him pinned.....and dont charge ur plasma pistol its useless...get him from a far...get i good spot where he cant see u then start shooting him with ur battle rifle and if he shoots u with needlers just run behind a walll the needles will not go around the wall.......adn use plasma grenades...

but your best way to win is the super jumps......u can pone with them......
