How can I get better at Halo 3?

Does it just take practice and dedication or is there some trick to it? How long will it take before I get pretty good? I am typically pretty good at video games but I get destroyed everytime I play this one online. Also how do you raise your skill and experience?

Keep practicing. practice, practice, practice. Also, try playing the camapign over and over again on legendary or heroic, (or if you are REALLY not that good then on the lower levels). What I do, is play around with a lot of teh features and sometimes i just go on a map by myself and shoot around so that I get used to where and how effectively it shoots in that area and then once you play it just sort of clicks and you know exactly what to do to nail the kill.

Practice and dedication. Learn where all the weapons are on every map (more coming out on Dec. 11th BTW) and figure out which ones you're good with. Then just practice, practice, practice. Always aim for the head if you can.

Experience is gained by finishing in the top half in either a ranked or unranked game, so if it's a team game your team has to win. Skill is gained by finishing in the top half of a ranked game, but it won't necessarily go up each time.
