how did master Chief die in halo 3?

He Didn't what happened is when he was going back through the slip space rupture it closed and cut the dawn in half he was in the back part and the arbiter was in the front. The arbiter made it to earth but master chief was left floating in space If you watch the Legendary ending You'll see the back peace floating towards a planet...

Master Chief did not die. At the very end him the the Arbiter were in the same ship. The Arbiter in the very front of the ship, and the Chief in the back. When they were trying to escape the blast from the master Halo the slip space orb was failing to stay on. The front of the ship made it back to earth, while the back of the ship got transported to another part of space. Master chief and cortana were in space floating. They both understood that the homing beacon she had turned on would take along time to reach earth. So he drifted in to a Cryo tube and as it closed he said to Cortana, "Wake me, when you need me.". And with that the end of Halo 3. But on the legendary ending you see that they are drifting closer to another planet. Could it be another adventure?? Who knows.

He didn't if you watch the entire end cutscene you see that he survives.

Chief didn't die. I watched finished the game and re-watched the ending just now,

Master chief doesnt die dude, he just goes into "hybernation" or stasis, or a deep sleep, call it wutever you will, but he didnt die.

He is just "sleeping"...........wutever, i dont know how to explain it,

Anyway, so he's in the ship with Cortana, Cortana sends out a signal for help, but she tells him that it might be a while before anyone finds them, so Master Chief says to Cortana "Wake me, when you need me" and goes into one of those pods and sleeps.

If you beat the last level on Legendary, you will unlock another secret cutscene, im not gona tell you what it is, you'll have to find out for yourself.
