How do i get better weapons in Halo 3?!?!?!?!?

I have started the Solo Game and im in the 1st or 2nd mission... And i have this sucky gun.. to get a better weapon do i have to pick up different weapons?? I want a sniper rifle or a machine gun.. rifle.. ANYTHING THATS GOOD. Please help!!!!

errr you dont get good stuff you find it or kill something and take it just play along and you will get stronger

hey man you can go up to your team mates and take their gun

Um, haha. Kill something, run over the gun it dropped, and hold RB.
