How do i play Xbox live on halo 3?

Im already connected to the internet and i have gold membership. i go to matchmaking/forge/theater/custom games but then what?

You go to Matchmaking then pick which game you wanna play (example: social slayer, social skirmish, lone wolves, team slayer, big team social, there's a lot of selections). I think they are under Playlist but I'm not exactly sure. Then you press Start Game and the search is on.
