In Halo 3, how is it that Elites are now your allies and the Brutes become

the new elites? Sorry, I kinda don't get the Halo storyline right now. But does it have anything to do with the Arbiter that the elites are now good guys now?

the elites failed to protect that one prophet i think regret that got killed in halo 2 so the covenant hired the brutes and yea. the brutes took credit for everything the elites did during the thing ie: retrieving the sacred icon etc. yea and they started to kill eachother and thats how they separated.
