Ranking system in halo 3?

What exactly is ranks on halo 3?Do you only get ranks playing online?How do you get a higher rank?Where can you check to see what rank you are?Please answer all my questions it will be very appreciated.

You can log into the Bungie website with you Windows Live ID and check out all your stats and keep track of your ranking. There is also a really good HaloWiki that explains the intricate details of the system.

You can only get a higher rank by playing online. By playing online, you can either increase your highest skill by winning ranked games or just your experience by winning social (unranked) games. You can go to www.bungie.net/stats and enter your gamertag to see your rank, experience, kills, deaths, and so much more.
