Should I buy Halo 3 or Gears of War 2?

I just got an XBox 360 for Xmas and I'm really happy but I am thinking about getting a shooter, so i have a dilemma. I think Halo 3 is really cool, but all my friends with 360's already have gotten tired of it and do not play it anymore. I also think Gears of War 2 would be fun, but I don't know if I should get that instead of Halo 3. I realize its a newer game, but i don't know. I have xbox live gold, so I am also looking at the online content. I am not a big fan of forge or something like that, so that wouldn't really change the likelihood of me buying either game.
as for CoD, I will buy cod4: MW2 later this year, and I guess I'll borrow Halo 3 and se if I like it enough to buy.
I guess the type of answer i want is relating to whether the fact that Halo 3 means that the game's life that is left in it as a playable game is soon going to diminish to a point where it really is unplayable online or only n00bs will be playing it

It depends, Halo 3 has map-making, but Gears of War 2 is more violent. It all depends on what you want.

gears of war that game is raw and its more realistic and since your friends dont play halo 3 anymore ask to borrow it but the new call of duty world of war is really fun and it is really online like you want i would choose call of duty over any shooting game because the call of dutys have a awsome online since thats what you want gears of was to is a little bad on the graphics for a 360 and the halo 3 gets boring after like a week but also in your case you could just borrow it ya know
