Who Can I Play With On Halo 3 On XBOX Live?

so I just got xbox live and was wondering if i can only play online with people that are my friends or if i cant join a random party and play with anyone.

You can play with anyone or with your friends or with your friends and anyone! Haha. Just go into "matchmaking" and choose a playlist and it'll quickly find other players that you can play with. This is a big reason Halo is so popular.
