why can i only load my halo 3 game whenever i'm connected to xbox live?

I have a saved game and when im connected to xbox live i can do everything perfectly but whenever i try playing disconnected from live i can't load my game. Help please.

if u started the game wen ur online it wont let u play it disconnected but if u started the game wen u were offline u can play it offline
