Why can't I earn exp when playing halo 3 multiplayer?

I have been playing halo 3 multiplayer for quite some time and have won several games, but it seems that I still have 0 exp. I noticed that it updates my highest skill, which is 5, but my exp is not changing and I am still a recruit. Is this a glitch?

To get exp you need to win the fight, if you leave the game while its still in progress you lose exp. But with your problem i cant seemt o think of an answer, maybe it is glitched but i doubt that something must be happening. Also i dont think custom matches count as adding on exp.
