xbox live halo 3 saving problems?

when i play halo 3 on xboxe live and i get my exp. up and everything, it wont save,


how do you save?!

its soooo annoying i will play like alllllll day and get like 39486543987 exp. points and it wont save or ask me to save or anythingggg
help meeee!!!
