do you require xbox live gold? i thought halo games were free to play on xbox live, will this be the same for halo reach? the only free game online is halo 3?

Can you play Halo 3 Mythic maps in splitscreen? And if so would both the players get the achievements for finding the skulls? Also can any of the achievements be done in 1 v 1 mode on social? Thankyou
