Why Can't I put my modded halo 3 maps back on my hard drive?

Halo 3 Multiplayer?
How do you create your own profile and customize your appearance and good stuff like that in Halo 3? When I press start all it does is bring me to settings for something else. Do you have to be on a certain menu or anything?
