Black Sidebars on HD in Halo 3?

When I first start up Halo 3 when I'm on the menu and on matchmaking it is fine but when I start the game black sidebars show up and it doesnt go in full screen is there any way to fix this? I have a Samsung Plasma Flat Screen 1080p
