Can someone with an XBOX play Halo 2 multiplayer with someone else with an XBOX 360?

I have an original XBOX and my friend has an XBOX 360. I want to know if we can play Halo 2 multiplayer with each other using XLink Kai or LIVE. This would really help us. Thank you.
