Can't record in Halo 3 theater?

When i go to record a video clip in the Halo 3 theater, the record button is greyed out. how can i get around this?

*IMPORTANT*
dont say fraps or a video camera. theres no way to get fraps on an xbox 360,and i dont want the poor quality of a video camera

well, you might not be on xbox live, or be on a guest account, also, when your playing Halo 3, it automatically records your gameplay

This might be because of low space left in your xbox, so you can't afford to store extra videos.
