Do I need Halo 3 to play the Halo 3 maps that come with ODST?

I know this question has been asked before, but I'm still a little confused.

I traded in Halo 3.

So when I buy ODST,... I'm able to essentially play Halo 3 multiplayer again?

No. Halo 3 multiplayer/forge/etc. comes in a second disc.

Yes, Halo ODST comes with a new campaign, and the entire Halo 3 Multiplayer, along with all the maps that have been released and some additional ones added to the mytic map pack.

I think this is what you mean but if you trade in halo 3 you cannot play online/ use the three maps to get the achievements if you get odst its basically acts a stand alone expansion with its own storyline its has nothing to do with halo 3
