Do you have to have Halo 3 to play Halo 3 ODST?

I've heard that halo 3 ODST is an expansion to the halo 3. Do you have to get Halo 3 first?
Sorry i know it was a stupid question. I just wanted to be sure!

no if you have halo 3 odst you do not need halo 3 but there are 2 discs of halo 3 odst there is the campaign which is different in halo 3 and the other disc the multiplayer which is the same a having halo 3 but on this it is compatible with halo 3 (regular) and there are more maps on the odst one thats why it is 2 separate discs.

No, Halo 3: ODST is a game all by itself, you don't have to have Halo 3 to play it at all, but Halo ODST does come with a mythic disc that has the Halo 3 game on it with all of the map packs already on it for free... However you can't play campaign on it, and I do not know if comes with achievements for Halo 3...

no you don't it is a separate game. the only reason why they call it an expansion is cause it has 2 discs. 1 for campain and the other for all the halo 3 maps for multiplayer that you would otherwise have to pay to download

no, it's considered an expansion by many because there really isn't much change from this game & halo 3. Plus, it's a sidestory/prequel to halo 3.
