do you need xbox live to play xbox originals halo 1 and 2 on the xbox 360?

im going to bye halo 1 and 2 and there is a lot of people saying that you need xbox live to get an update on the xbox 360 and i can not get xbox live because it will not connect to my wireless router so i would like to no if i can play halo 1 and 2 without having xbox live ?
