why can't we use multiplayer as an argument? its part of the game. then u might as well not ask this question if u cant use any aspect of the game and give it a positive ur negative rating.
Edit: halo 3 has an amazing online multiplayer. halo is almost completley built for its competitive and cooperative play. i think thats what appeals to most people. the idea of being able to play with ur friends, or against them. also the campaign is decent, and with friends is fairly easy, even on legendary. (highest difficulty) forge mode lets you build your own maps to play on, and allows almost anything to be made, such as racetracks, capture the flag, just killing, infection, etc. infection is when some people spawn as "zombies" and walk around killing humans. when humans die, they too become zombies. last man gets points, and killers get points. online play is amazing, there is almost no lag, and the ranking system is fair. it can actually give you a good ranking, that will reflect on how good you are. online, you don't run into people that are much higher of a rank than you, which i think is a good thing, but you will if you play with many high ranks in the first place. for example, if you were a rank 30, and played with two rank 50's, you would end up with very tough players. (rank 50 being the highest from 1-50) i havn't ever played fallout 3, but that is what i think is good about halo 3. i never said it was better, or worse, thats just my general review of the game.
