Halo 1 and 2 on PC! Need to know!?

I am interested in playing Halo 1 and 2 online (PC), but need to know if it costs money to play or if it is free. I don't have an internet connection, but am thinking about getting one if it is free. Anyone know, and if there is a charge, how much?
