Halo 1 Multiplayer?

My friends and I still play this religously because it is our favorite of all the Halo's and here lately I've been slacking and am no longer top dog and was wanting to know of any tips to get better at the multiplayer. We play games such as Wizard Rockets, Hangem High Pistols and Chill Out with shotguns with no armour. Is there anything I can do to become a better player. I have all the levels down as far as knowing where certain weaposn are like the rocket launcher so it's not that I don't know the boards I just want to know if there is something I can do to get better. Change my sensitivity, I play at a 6 now, or what. I've noticed that other players I play with utilize the grenades really well. What are some overall tips that I could get to get better. Thanks in advance!!
I can use the pistol pretty effectively, but the sniper is difficult at close range. And on a leve like Hangem High it would be suicide to go after the sniper at the top middle of the level.

well in Halo 1, all the "pros" use the sniper and pistol
the Pistol is so overpowered in Halo 1, any experienced player will be able to dominate with it against any weapon

In Halo2 and Halo3 though, you will need to learn to use the battle rifle
the rocket launcher/shotgun are your "power" weapons and pretty much anyone with 2 hands can use them
