Halo 1, two player LAN game, windows xp?

I have halo 1 that cannot connect to WAN servers, can I set it up for me and my spouse to play each other in a lan? How? 10 points guaranteed to first answer with instructions. thanks!
** it is a copy from a friend, so i think that is why is cannot connect to WAN, cuz its a duplicate.
