Halo 3 achievement help?

This is about the terminal achievement. Do I have to complete the level the terminal is on to get credit for it. And once I activate it, how much do I have to go into it until I can deactivate it. I have heard I have to wait until the arrow in the lower left hand corner turns red.

You need to go to 7 different terminals.
Furthermore, you need to keep pressing A until you see the end of the terminal statement.
