Halo 3 achievements and sword?

Now that there are well over 1000 gamerpoints in halo 3, do you still need only 1000 worth to get the sword and security armor? Or now do you need the new achievements to get them as well? Thanks for the help

The One thing I know, is that you need every achievement to get the sword, if that involves the new ones after getting the sword, I don't know..
