Halo 3 Can't connect to server?

Okay, I just bought an Xbox 360 Arcade and a 120gb hard drive. I setup my xbox live gold account, and yet I still cannot play halo 3. I know this can't be a general Xbox Live issue because my friends can play. My internet works just fine because I downloaded Sonic 2 and a few TV shows to my hard drive.

Any Ideas as to why I can't play Halo 3 online?
