Halo 3 Rank?

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me here. In halo 3 i am a Colonel Grade 2 with a highest skill level of 40, and about 920 experience. I really want to become a brigadier by reaching a level 45 but... it seems that its taking an abnormal amount of time to go up at all. It's kinda working like this... ill win like 5 games in a row, then if im lucky i might go up one skill point, but then i might lose the next game or two and boom i am back where i started. Any suggesions or offers on helping me with this?

I don't play halo 3 often on X Box Live but based on my brothers angry shouts at the t.v. I'd say you could team up with some friends that are really good at Halo and play some ranked games and that could level you up.

You level up when you improve at Halo, not just when you win a game. (you probably already knew that) That's why it's so hard to level up in Halo after a while.
