Halo 3 ranking question?

Ok So I'm new to Halo.

Do you have a different rank for diffeent games?

Cause when I play team slayer It says I'm a 4

When I play lone wolves it says 5.

Team objective says 2.

When I click on my gamertag to look at player details it says corporal grade 2. What's that mean?

Also what does highest skill mean? Mine is 6.

that rank is actually ur current skill. skill is separate in each ranked game type. when u win ranked games, the skill in that type of game goes up. if u lose, it goes down. highest skill is the highest skill from all the game types. highest can only go up and wont decrease. Corporal grade 2 is your rank. it depends on experience points (1 point=1 win in a ranked or other matchmaking game) only until you get to officer rankings like liuetenant. then your skill will affect how much experience points u need for a promotion. grade 2 is just like a rank within the rank. soon, u will move up to grade 3, then the next full rank, grade 2 , and so on.
