Halo 3 Xbox Live Question!?

I have a Silver account and I am able to play online. However, when I go on matchmaking, it keeps saying that "Some gamer profiles do not have permission to play on Xbox Live. Please select a gamer profile that has permission to play online." What does this mean?
I already used the free 1 month Gold membership...am i screwed?

im preaty sure that you need to be a gold to use matchmaking
