how did sergeant johnson survive the explosion in halo 1?

to me, its basically impossible to survive something like that. i read something about this. it told me that before the ship exploded, the masterchief came down in the longsword to pick up sergeant johnson before the ship exploded. but in the ending it doesn't show johnson in the ship.

I forget but he probably was on the ship Johnson's a spartan after all. He is technically a spartan 1. The Spartan 1s where an experiment which led up to the spartan 2s. They are still not as strong as the spartans of 2 and 3 though.

Johnson escaped in a Pelican, meeting up with other survivors, who then flew a dropship to meet up with the Master Chief's ship.
