How do i play on xbox live with people other than my friends on halo 3????

I have just got xbox live gold and i was trying to play on halo3. i went onto the lobby. i thought that open game would mean anyone can join but that wasn't the case. turned out only my friends could play with me. how do i enable myself to be able to play with anybody on xbox live other than my friends whenever i want.

You should try the matchmaking option. If that doesn't work, Family settings might be active on your account.

goto matchmaking and change it to open party.
