How do you activate Skulls in HALO 3?

When you pick up a skull in Halo 3, what do you do with it?
Does it activate as soon as you pick it up?
When does it take affect?

when you pick up a skull you unlock the achievement and then you can use that skull in the game as a melee weapon for that level. but the real use for the skulls is in the meta-point games. all you have to do is go to the mission menu and hit X. turn on the meta-point mode then you pick your skull and it tells you what it does then you can activate the skull and have the effect in the game.

Go to campaign lobby, and press X to bring up Campaign Options (this also allows you you to turn on Campaign Scoring which is only fun with Friends) and below the choices for the Campaign Scoring are the Skulls. You can only activate ones you have collected in the game, and if playing with friends you don't have to touch them yourself, one of your buddies has to. You just press A and the skull should light up, then back out and play whatever Campaign Mission you desire. No you have to save and quit once you get it and on the campain menu you press x and you see all the skulls you have collected and thats where you activate the skulls.You should try to get the grunt birthday party skull first its hilarious.and they unlock certain parts of the hayubusa armor when you get certain amount its awsome looking!
