How do you get skulls for Halo 3?

I'm new at halo and i just recently bought an xbox and i was wondering how do you get skulls on halo 3 and halo 2 (i got halo 2 after i beat halo 3)
how do i find them in the campain

There is one skull per stage on each game, and i found halo 3's skulls to be easier to locate.
