how do you kill the guys with the hammer on Halo 3?

I threw a couple of plasmas on him and then shot him with the automatic gun....that killed him but then a grunt stuck me with a plasma...

this guy your shooting is like the undead you can not kill him are even blow him up all your doing is ****ing him off

there are a couple of them throughout the game, one of them i got lucky and assassinated, but the others i stuck with plasmas and brute grenades, they were tough, but the weapon they drop is awesome, i think it is gonna be a real popular weapon in multiplayer on the few maps it is on
