How does the TrueSkill in Halo 3 work?

I just want to know how exactly does this TrueSkill for the Halo 3 work out? I mean that I win like a few games in Halo 3 and my skill sometimes goes up. Is there another possible way for skill to go up besides winning? I mean because there are at times where I would win a game and then loose and then win again.

I really want to know how it really works so I can play accordingly. I hate having my skill to constantly go up and then go down again. I just want to know how this thing actually works out.

If you win you win you get 1 EXP and if you lose it doesnt go down unless you lose constantly.

yeah that happens to me to I think if you get 3rd you go up one xp point 2nd gets you up a rank and 1st gets you up one rank and one xp point
